After the mental chaos of depression came the soothing touch of tablets and the album, the long sleep; serotonin nurses in silver foil, hibernation and recuperation. As they worked their way in, there was a glimpse of something on the other side. Television at dawn and joyriders, choral voices and a bus tour through Boston with pianos and guitars are the sound of the curtains are opening, the third album from musicforvoyeurs.

The second album by Musicforvoyeurs, The Long Sleep picks up from the wintery gloom of before, an introspective trap of despair and not wanting to wake up when depression hits hard. it is the sound of giving up on life but without the courage, a coward’s lament to a failed existence. musicforvoyeurs’ debut album was acclaimed as “fantastic opiate opera… delightfully maudlin…. a masterclass in ambient atmospherics and moody intoxication ” and The Long Sleep drifts along with Harold Budd and Bill Conti, Goldmund and Simon Gallup’s straggling bass. musicforvoyeurs began on morphine and crutches, when rick ended up in hospital after the death of his girlfriend. as he learnt how to walk again, he taught himself the piano and found his old guitars from a lifetime ago, something to get him through a lonely london winter. awake all night, he found comfort in the lost souls of a darkened world where no one sleeps, just the sound of religious zealots begging to save you at four in the morning through the television screen. musicforvoyeurs is melancholy and loss, unrequited love, death and the sadness of fading passion, the sound of sparklehorse’s spirit haunting eluvium’s loops, the boards of canada snorting mephedrone with the cure.
